Calls to Make-A-WishTM and other wish granting organizations made it clear just how few of them served adults and that none of them served Veterans exclusively. One of our co-founders reached Barbara at the Dream Foundation in Santa Barbara, CA; although sympathetic, she explained that on such short notice, there was little that could be done.

Disheartened, but even more determined, the Veterans began to reach out along the network of American Legion and VFW Posts across the country. Quickly, very quickly, the family's vacation began to come together. Lodging was secured, Disney tickets were aquired, a rental car was provided and through generous gifts from Legion Post #273, Madeira Beach, FL and VFW Post #10094, Largo, FL, the family's meals were paid for.

Encouraged by the success of their efforts and proud of the
"Veterans Serving Veterans" spirit of the American Legion
and VFW Posts across the country, our co-founders,
David and Kevin, dedicated themselves to ensure a viable
wish granting organization was founded exclusively for
Veterans of the United States Armed Forces and their families.
The Warrior's Wish Foundation was born.

Our story begins with a Soldier's Wish. 31 year old Staff Sergeant Robert Toland was diagnosed with terminal cancer while on active duty in the United States Army; he was sent home to Upstate New York for treatment and to be with his family. Fearing SSG Toland would have to enter a Hospice Living Facility, his friend Josh asked for help installing a 1st floor bathroom in Robert's home from a local youth group, the Christian Youth Corps (CYC) . The group agreed to make renovations to the Toland's home, but in order to do that, the family needed to be out of the house for a while. The CYC asked some local Veterans from the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars for help with a trip to Disney World for Robert, his wife Melanie and thier children Lilia (5yrs), Skylar (2yrs) and Morgan (1yr). The Veterans agreed with just 1 week to make it happen.
