Warrior's Wish,

My brother Charlie is a hero to me. His war buddies nick-named him "Snickers" because of the cases of candy bars our folks sent to him during WWII. He served in the US Army for 3 years and earned a Purple Heart.

Charlie spent the Christmas of 1944 in the Ardennes Forest during the Battle of the Bulge. He told me it was the coldest he had ever been in his life. It was there that he earned his Purple Heart and a Bronze Star for saving the lives of 2 of his fellow soldiers.

Charlie is 15 years older than I am and when our parents were killed the year after he came home from France he raised me and our younger sister. Charlie has never sked for anything and has always been there for his neighbors, his friends and especially his family. Two months ago his doctor told him he has pancrease cancer and would not live until next Christmas. He has not told his wife Adelle who has been married to for almost 63 years.

Charlie tinkers with an old washing machine that they got for their 25th anniversary. He has managed to keep it running but just barely. The day after he got the news from his doctor he and I had coffee and he told me, "I wish I could get Adelle a new washer machine before I go."

I am heart broken because it is just like Charlie to think about his bride and taking care of her needs before his own. If you people could help get my brother a new washer for his wife he could rest easy. Thank you for your time and for what you do for all the veterans.

God bless you,

Vincent Walmont
