Dear Warrior's Wish,

My husband Keith is a United States Marine. He is the strongest, bravest man I have ever met. He is also the kindest gentlest soul I will ever know. He is 22 years old and the love of my life. In 2008 he deployed with his unit to Afghanistan.
He returned home last September and he asked me to marry him when he stepped off the plane. In February we found out we were pregnant we were so excited! Then the first week of April came and all of our dreams came to a halt. After 5 months of tests, sleep studies, neurological exams and consultations, we learned that Keith has a large tumor on his brain stem and it is inoperable.

My husband never asks for anything, he is a Marine, he improvises and overcomes things. But, this he can't overcome and he knows it. One day last week he bought a saw and a router along with some wood and spent the better part of Saturday afternoon in the garage. I heard him out there sawing and drilling and banging away. And then the noise stopped. When I went to check on him he was sitting on the floor rocking back and forth. I asked what he was doing and his answer was this:

"She's not going to know me; I won't get to meet her. But, I want her to know that her Daddy loves her." He was visibly distressed and went on to say, "I wanted to build her a box that she could have forever. I wanted to fill it with Birthday Presents so that each year on her birthday she would get something from me. I wanted to, but I can't build anything. My hands won't work." My heart was torn out.

Keith probably will not meet our daughter. His doctors have all said there is nothing else to do. I want so badly for Keith to live long enough to meet our little girl. He lays on my belly and talks to her every night and he tells her he is sorry that he will not be here when she gets here. He tells her he loves her and that Mommy will take good care of her. He tells her that every birthday she will get a special present that he picked out just for her and that he will find her something to keep them all in before he goes. He started making videos that he wants her to watch after each birthday party. I don't know what to do I am so sad. I wish we could find a chest of some kind that Keith could decorate for her, from her Daddy. Anything that I have found is either cheaply made or if it is something that she can have forever, it is just too expensive.

Can you please help?

Thank you,

Justine P.
